I scrapped!

Well – I did make a book for family – I’ll share that one of these days…..but I haven’t scrapped in a long while! I have had this page almost finished for 2 mos. I finally made myself sit down and finish it last night and here it is!

Now for something kinda cool! When you resize your scrap pages to post them online – they lose a lot of their “quality”. There was a discussion on digishoptalk about how to resize and retain image quality and sharpness. Laura shared a 4shared link to an action she created to resize your pages for sharing in email or on the web. And she gave me permission to post the link here! I’ll show you two different pages with my before way of doing it and then the after where I used her action. Now unfortunately, I have to resize to 500×500 for posting here on my blog and her action resizes to 540×540. So I have to take it down a bit more. But it’s still so much sharper! I’m not sure how well these pages show it, but they were the only two I had available at the moment.

before – my way

after – using the action

I hope you can see some difference in the sharpness and clarity! On some pages that others posted the difference was huge! So here is the link for Laura’s action:

Laura’s Resize Action

Just make sure you post a note to her and tell her thanks for sharing it! More to come later today!

Totally not craft related…

Just a warning in case you came for that. This is a totally random post about nothing really. Just about me, lol! So feel free to not read!

We did nothing crafty today – we went to the zoo! So I thought I’d share my favorite picture from today! Alex being….well, Alex!

12-07-photos-to-deal-with-134for-web.jpg

Can you believe we went to the zoo – with just jackets?? Well, Adam wore gloves…but that’s just Adam. Tomorrow is supposed to be a high of 64!! So crazy.

And now for the really random part. I’ve been growing my hair for awhile. I decided earlier this month it was just getting out of control long. Here’s a shot from May – and it was even longer than in this picture. (not the best pic to show it, but it’s adorable, lol!)

5-07-emily-and-adamfor-web.jpg

So earlier this month I got 5 inches cut off. It feels so much better! And it’s shorter than just 5 inches because the weight of it is so much lighter, it curls all the more now.  I love it – even though I did have to go back because one side was an inch longer – oops! Anyway – here it is straight (I only do that when they do it for me, I do not have the time, patience or arm length to do it myself!) and curly (the curly one was today when we went to the zoo.) I used Bren Boone’s lightroom actions on these….

brenboonedingy-5-of-1for-web.jpg

So how was that for random? I do have something to show you tomorrow (Sunday – it’s like midnight now….) and even a sweet deal for ya too!

Finally!

And only a few days after Christmas too! I finally finished my blocks for my house! Yep! I am really happy with them too! Wanna see?

They are done on the largest size blocks I could find – 2 1/4 in blocks. Only problem was – I didn’t have any rub ons that were big enough! So I had to use the biggest ones I had…oh well!

my-peace-blocks-12-07-erg.jpg

supplies: basicgrey figgy pudding papers; 2 1/4 in blocks; white acrylic paint; sanding blocks; making memories rub ons; mod podge; and plaid acrylic sealant.

I chose the word PEACE because it’s what our stocking hangers spell. Our stocking hangers used to spell JOY. Then we had Alex and they spelled NOEL. And along came Adam…..and now they spell PEACE. So I guess that’ll be our theme word now, lol! I am glad I got them done – I’ll leave them out for about a day before we pack up the Christmas stuff….but I love them!

And just an FYI for those of you awaiting GinaK’s January release party – the date was moved a bit and here’s the new info:

Revisiting Apple Pie….

Cause I just love it! I’ve not crafted at all this week, but am gearing up for a day of catch up. You know – I have not even finished MY blocks for the mantle yet?? So bad. Anyway, the boys and I are not going anywhere today. I don’t have any extra children in my house today. So it’s craft day! Alex got the Cuttlekids for Christmas along with the pirate and the dinosaur dies. He *loves* it! I don’t think regular cuttlebug dies can be used in it, but it’s really cute and now they can crank to their hearts content and not break my machine!

Anyway – back to pie. I love apple pie. Probably my favorite non-chocolate dessert ever. I’ve posted the recipe before, but I thought I would revisit it today since I have an uber cute pic to go with it…..and I’ve got nothing else to share! I promise lots of better craft goodies in the next few days! (Oh and I ordered some fab Valentine papers so I’ll get to work with those as soon as they get here! Are the finished mailboxes something any of you would like to see in my ‘store’ page?)

So before I ramble on and on – how about some pie? Here’s Andy and Adam giving it Two Thumbs Up! They asked if I would make them each their own pie so they don’t have to share….yeah right!

two-thumbs-up.JPG

Apple Pie:

1 1/4 c sugar

1 1/2 T flour

salt

1 t cinnamon

Put bottom crust in pie plate and poke with fork. Combine all ingredients and mix. Add 5-6 granny smith apples (6-8 small ones – I like to do more cause I love apples.). Mix together and pour into pie crust. Slice a few small pats of margarine onto apple mixture. Put top crust on and make three slits in the top. Brush with milk and sprinkle sugar on top. (the last part is the *secret* step for the boys – they think it’s the part that makes our pie special).

Bake for 10 min at 425. Then lower temp to 350 and bake for 45-50 min.

There ya go! I am actually going to *gasp* work out this morning before I get to the stamp room. I have not worked out much since I had foot surgery this summer….and it shows! Feeling a little jiggly and this is one of my new year’s resolutions – not weight loss or anything, just getting in better shape. Perhaps it will help me finally kick this sinus stuff too – yes, my ear is still funky. Guess I’ll have to call the dr AGAIN.

Tutorials

Recently I have had several requests for various tutorials. The thing is – all of them were for tutorials I have already done! In case you aren’t aware, I have a link at the top of my page under my banner as well as in the side under the categories section where you can access all of my tutorials. I’ll even link you up here! I totally don’t mind requests for tutorials, I may not do it, but I don’t mind being asked, lol!

But ya might wanna check to see if it’s already there and available!

2 Scoops!!!

Lookee what I found today!

super sweet! Coming soon from basicgrey! I have no idea when – I was just looking to see if they had any valentine papers planned. So have you seen any uber cute Valentine papers out there yet? Link me up!

Oooh! Mary mentioned Bo Bunny’s Smitten line – WAY CUTE! And I totally didn’t realize that Shabby Princess designs for them!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

I hope that you are all having a lovely Christmas with family and friends.  We have all the presents wrapped and are just waiting for the boys to fall asleep (they are all sleeping in Andy’s room tonight) – which might be awhile, they are a little amped!

We’ve got coffee cake planned for after we open presents.  Then we’re getting together with family and I am bringing the yeast rolls, ham, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and a few goodies.  I hope you are all having yummy Christmas dinners as well!

Here’s a little Christmas card for you all!

CC146, another gnome and a Christmas treat….

Well – I posted CC146 really early so in case any of you had free time tonight, you could work on it! I don’t think I’ll be getting to the CC this week, but I figured some people might be looking for it! More info <here>.

And now for a little Christmas treat – another little something we took to friends the other night……

christmas-cupcakes-12-07.jpg

Yummy, huh? Triple chocolate fudge cupcakes with vanilla icing and sprinkles from Target (the red have little white candy canes and the green have little white snowflakes.)

And then I thought I would share the Christmas present I got to open today. My Dad stopped by and gave Matthew and I our gifts and I got this uber cute little guy!

nebraska-gnome-12-07.jpg

Yep! It’s a Nebraska gnome!! Isn’t he so cute! Now I have two gnomes outside and the little guy inside!

my-gnomes-12-07.jpg

There they are outside together. Thank you Dad and Cindy!

I hope you are all having a lovely Christmas Eve. We’ve been to the kid friendly Christmas Eve service and now we’re going to eat (a totally christmas-y meal of guacamole and hamburgers….) then it’s out to look at Christmas lights and have hot chocolate! We’ll finish the evening off with a reading of the story of Jesus’ birth and then it’s bed time! Matthew and I will be up late wrapping presents. We love having only a few under the tree and then hearing the boys when they wake up and there are a bunch! And no, they aren’t from Santa – we aren’t big on Santa here.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! I hope you all have a wonderful day tomorrow and that you are able to share it with family and friends.

Peanut Butter Balls and a Penguin….

Another Christmas favorite of mine – Peanut Butter Balls.  Just love those suckers!  One of the things I am bringing to Christmas (lunch) Dinner is the cookies and peanut butter balls.  Since we ate dinner with some friends last night, we made these up to take over there – and now I’ve got them made for Christmas as well.  Here’s a plate of the cookies and peanut butter balls!

pb-balls-12-07-erg.jpg

Yum!  Now, my pb balls aren’t very prettily coated in chocolate because Matthew and Adam did the chocolate part today, but that’s ok – they still taste good!   Here’s the recipe I use…

Peanut Butter Balls

1 c peanut butter (recipe says crunchy – I use creamy cause I don’t like nuts)

1 c rice krispies

1 c powdered sugar

2 T melted margarine

almond bark (or other melting chocolate)

Mix all ingredients (except chocolate) in a bowl.  Slightly chill.  Roll into small balls.  Chill.  Dip in chocolate (I use the almond bark that comes in cubes – like an ice cube tray – and I use half chocolate and half white chocolate – or vanilla).  Chill.  Eat.

That’s it!  Really easy and tasty!  Here’s the card I took over with it – this is a re-take on one I did last Christmas.  It’s one of the cards we made at the class I did at my Dad’s work earlier this month.  I stamped up the extras this afternoon and used one today.  The rest I stamped with thanks so I can use them as thank-you’s after Christmas!

penguin-12-07-erg.jpg

supplies: white, black and cool caribbean cardstock; palette noir ink; gingham ribbon; snowflake cuttlebug folder; SU punches; dimensionals, image from Wild About You by SU, and sentiment from GinaK Designs

I hope you are all ready for Christmas – cause man – it’s getting crazy out there at the stores!  The boys and I went to Target yesterday and it was a madhouse!  I think the toy area was just plain ransacked!!
