2 cards and some specials

Ok – so it was a bit more than *a few* before I came back.  I got a little busy with some other stuff.  Anyway, here are two of the other cards we made at class…the last one was {this card} I posted earlier.

This inside of this card says “Go hog wild!”:

supplies: Down on the Farm by Gina K Designs;  white and regal rose cardstock; palette noir and regal rose ink; sponge; patterned paper by Sassafrass Lass; striped grosgrain by May Arts; dimensionals; classic circle nestabilities; and niji waterbrush.

And this is a slightly different version of a card I did for a previous color challenge a few months ago.

supplies: Guide Lines and Everyday Blessings by PTI; kraft, basic black and cool caribbean cardstock; new canvas and palette noir ink; grosgrain ribbon from my share; pearl from Hobby Lobby; primas; glue dots – large and small; and corner rounder with guard off to make scallops.

And now for the specials and other info!

This weekend….

Well – you know how I was SO excited (insert eye roll here) about painting this weekend?  I’m off the hook.  My husband’s National Guard unit was called for the impending hurricanes so he’s preparing with them for immediate intervention/relief should they hit hard.  I am glad that the military is well-prepared this time around, but I would have liked to spend the long weekend together, of course!

Anyway – I’ve made a few other plans for the boys and I this weekend.  We’re going to rent some movies, go swimming at the Y, shop at Costco – believe it or not, this is a huge highlight for them.  I swear they eat samples there that they wouldn’t touch with a 10 ft pole at home!  I am going to relax and catch up on some digiscrapping I have horribly neglected for the past 10 months.  (yikes!)  My goal is 5 pages this weekend.  (I wanted to set a very reachable goal so that if I surpass it I will be thrilled.  Plus I do have some other stuff to do paper wise.)  And I am going to get that much promised Kraft kit up for y’all.  It’s done, I just need to make the preview.

That said – I do have a few cards, some coupon codes, and Gina K release news to share.  I’ll be back in a few to get to that fun stuff!!!

A few things….

So I have a few things to talk about.

#1 – WHY is Season 3 of Bones not coming out on DVD until the middle of November?!?!  Really?  I’d like to watch it BEFORE the new season starts!

#2 – If one more person says “Wow – with all your kids in school, you will have a lot of free time.  What will you do with yourself??” I might scream!  Seriously??  First of all….I have a few irons in the fire design-wise.  I’d like to do that during the day now instead of at 3am.  Second of all….I have a bunch of other things going on.  I do NOT sit here all day lounging around people!  (sorry, mini-vent there!)

#3 – I am so not looking forward to painting in the house this weekend, but I am looking forward to having it all done!  I mean really – who puts non-washable paint in a kids bathroom?  That’s disgusting.  I can’t wait to paint over that!

#4 – I really hope I did not come off rude when I showed my first cards the other day.  I debated posting them as I realize that many people still make cards like that.  I must tell you, when I made those cards – I could not have been more proud of them!  There is absolutely nothing wrong with that!  I just wanted to show where I started out.  And to be honest – I think my cards got a million times better within the first 3 months of doing the daily SCS challenges and getting my own room to keep my supplies out in.

And I have class tonight so here are 2 of the cards we’ll be making.

supplies: Garden of Life by PTI; Simple Little Things anniv set by PTI; kraft and white cardstock; lemon tart cardstock, palette ink and ribbon from PTI; new canvas palette ink; spellbinders ribbon tag die and sponge.

And since one of the other cards we are doing is larger and more time consuming, this one is a smaller, easy 3×3 card…

supplies: For Peep’s Sake Collection Snag’em stamp from Imaginisce; sentiment from Simple Little Things anniv set from PTI; pretty in pink, white and certainly celery cardstock; palette noir ink; Heidi Swapp Distresser; May Arts striped ribbon from LSS; dimensionals; and always apricot, almost amethyst, pretty in pink, and certainly celery markers.

I hope you are gearing up for a fun holiday weekend!

CC181- I love it!

This is one of my more favorite combos – not that I use it that much, but it puts together a few of my favorite colors. Actually – it’s not that black or kraft are my favorite colors.  I just use them a ton!  Anyway, you can find out more on the color challenge {here}.  And here’s my sample!

supplies: Comfort and Peace by Gina K Designs; rose red and mellow moss craft ink; palette noir; basic black, kraft and rose red cardstock; dimensionals; sanding block; black grosgrain ribbon; paper piercer and template; and cuttlebug folder.

Ok – I’ve got some more stuff, but I’ll have to put it up tomorrow morning. I’m tired!

I scrapped a page!

Ok, so it was a really fast page, but still! And the best part – you can download the freebie I used too! It is by Vinnie Pearce and you can find it {here}. I’ll be checking her other things out!

This was a photo of Alex reading to Matthew and Adam one evening before bed. It was taken last March.

paper and overlay – Vinnie Pearce – freebie from her blog

frame – Holly McCaig – 3d paper frames

photo action – Natasha Whiteley – BW Toned

font – Darcy Baldwin – DJB My Dear Marsha @ SSD

And that’s it! Simple, but I really like her style! No Stuff I Like today – just busy gearing up for the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL tomorrow! WOOHOO!

These will make you laugh!

There was a thread on SCS yesterday asking for the DD girls to show some of their “misses” from their card making years.  I have to say – once I got going, it was hard to stop picking out the cards in my gallery that just don’t do it for me.  We’re always our own toughest critic, right?

Anyway – while I was digging around, I found some priceless cards from my EARLY early stamping days and I thought I would share them with y’all – they are good for a laugh!  I’m going to upload them as thumbnails so you can click on them if you want to see them full size.  Well – all except this priceless picture – it was one of my very very first cards!

I made this in the fall of 2003…seriously – one of the first cards I ever made!

I showed these two to Matthew last night and he honestly didn’t believe I’d made them, lol!

And wow – do you remember the plaidmaker?  Apparently if you use it, you don’t need anything else but a sentiment slapped in the middle!

And I’m not sure what was up with this style….

And just a few more random classics…

So – you can see how far I have come in the last 4+ years.  If your cards are better than these (and I am sure they are!) then feel free to laugh and enjoy my start to stamping.  If your cards are not better than these (and I doubt that!) then you can enjoy seeing the improvements I have made and know that you will continue to get better too!

I hope that made you laugh today!  Enjoy your weekend!

I love strawberries!

Really, I do.  My favorite fruit.  I remember going to my grandparents farm and picking them when I was a kid.  We’d wash them off at the pump and eat them!  Nothing tastes better than really fresh, ripe strawberries!

So – that’s why I love this stamp set.  Cause it has really pretty strawberries in it.  This is the image I shared as my 2nd attempt with the Copic markers {here}.  I finally made it all the way in to a card!

supplies: Summer Harvest by Gina K Designs; stampers select white and berry sorbet cardstock and by PTI; basic black and garden green cardstock; palette noir ink; Copic Ciao markers; classic square nestabilities; sanding block; paper piercer and template; and dimensionals.

And I heard that Scrapbookpal has the new Suze Weinberg Glitz Stickles in stock!  I got a coupon code good through 9/5/05 for a FREE regular stickles to share too – here’s how to get them!

Go to Scrapbookpal.com.

Purchase *anything*!

Add the coupon code school on the view cart page (Just type school into the box for coupons and click *add to cart* and the free stickles will appear! You do not need to add it to your card first!)

(They even have a good price on Zip Dry for those of you who prefer that!) Just remember – FREE shipping if you spend over $25! I love this cause I hate to pay for shipping!

Kraft Freebie!

Ok – I have finished that paper pack I told y’all about awhile back!  I have a little freebie from it for you right now, and I’ll get the rest of it up tomorrow!  I hope you like it!  You can never have enough neutrals, right?

{Download Freebie Here}

And there’s even a bonus frame in there!  Anyway, after I get the preview and such done tomorrow, I’ll put the whole set up.  Right now it has 3 frames and 8 papers.  Enjoy!

The rest of the Monograms

Here are the other 3 cards that made up the sets we put together at class last night.  I had some crystal clear boxes that fit 5 cards and envelopes perfectly.  I really like 4 of them – 1 not so much, lol!  But we had a really fun group last night! And here’s the rest of what we made…

supplies: DIY Monogram Stamper Curlz font kit; groovy guava ink; groovy guava and white cardstock; groovy guava patterned paper; classic circle nestabilities;  and dimensionals.

supplies: DIY Monogram Stamper  Damask “1-letter’ border set with Times New Roman font; groovy guava ink; groovy guava patterned paper; groovy guava and white cardstock; classic circle nestabilities; fiskars threading water punch and dimensionals.

supplies:  DIY Monogram Stamper Special Occasions font kit; groovy guava ink; groovy guava and white cardstock; groovy guava patterned paper; classic circle nestabilities; white grosgrain ribbon; paper piercer and template; and dimensionals.

And I was really good and made up all the extras, minus the letter part.  So after we meet the teachers tomorrow night – I can put their teachers’ initials on them and it’ll be a first day of school gift!   (Oh – can you tell which one I don’t like?)

Also – I listed this coupon info yesterday, but I wanted to add that I’ve heard the prices for the monograms are going up in September…so you might want to take advantage this month before that happens!

The Stamp Castle coupon – expires 8/31/08:

free shipping on orders $40 or over
-code: SUMMER
-have to select regular Priority shipping
-valid on orders shipping to continental U.S. states only (excludes Hawaii and Alaska)

How Cool!

So I do not enter many contests and I never submit to magazines or anything.  (I can’t take rejection!) But I entered the quilt card we made at class month on Papertrey Ink’s monthly contest and I got an Honorable Mention. Pretty cool! (And thank you to Diana for letting me know!)

This is what was on Nichole’s blog:

Best Use of Quilter’s Sampler

Emily_giovanni Emily Giovanni paired a striking color scheme with clean design when utilizing Quilter’s Sampler for her entry. The colors are soft, yet striking, which is perfect for many card occasions. Her use of the quilt squares and their positioning within faux stitching borders was fabulous too!

And I’ll have something real to post after I get off my butt and take some photos….
