Gina K Inspiration Blog Hop – Day 3

I have 3 more sets to share with you today.  Before I do that though, I get asked a lot about patterned papers.  How I use them, choose them, match the images to paper, etc.  So I thought I would address that here instead of answering all the comments about it.

Let me start off by saying that I used to really struggle with using patterned paper.   I mean REALLY struggle.  I had to force myself to start using a little every day to be able to work it in on a card.  Now I almost can’t make one without it!  I don’t know how anyone else goes through the process of choosing paper but here’s how I do it!  I usually start with the image.  Not colored or stamped or anything, just choose the image/set I want to work with.  (Sometimes I might really want to use a particular paper and I’ll start with that.)  Then I’ll look for paper to go with that image.  After I have an image and a paper selected, then I go about stamping, coloring, etc.

Now this does cause me to kind of have a main style of layout.  I try to change it up sometimes, but usually for me the focus is on showing off the main image and then the rest of the card is just an accent to it.  I admire those stampers that have all kinds of cool layouts, fantastic embellishments, etc.  I just like having a main image and pretty paper to back it up.   Anyway, that’s how my process starts.  Yes, I have embarrassing amounts of patterned paper.  Mostly in 6×6 pads.  Unless I really really like something, I usually just buy the 6×6 pad because I like how the patterns are scaled down for a card.

Ok, now on to the cards for today!  The first cards I have are with the newest Buy 3 Get 1 FREE set.  I love sets with block images like this for one main reason – they make excellent small notecards that are quick!  I like these little cards for dropping a note in something.  I made these for my step-mom, Cindy – because ‘believe’ is her word and it was in the set!  I stamped the blocks on some patterned paper in cream ink and that’s about it!  These are 3×3 cards.

Next up I have another of the Duos from this month.   I know some of the other Design Team members have gorgeous colored butterflies, so I wanted to show a different view of this duo.  I used Pink Paislee’s butterfly paper and just sponged a bunch of Tim Holtz distress inks on everything!  I love how it turned out – very simple, but kind of vintage looking too!

And lastly, I have another of the Duos. I used some papers from My Mind’s Eye for this one.  I love pink and gray so these papers were perfect for that.  The words look hard to read in the photograph, but they are fine IRL.  Sometimes things just photograph funny!

Gina K Inspiration Blog Hop – Day 2

Hello!  Today I have a few more fabulous new sets to share with you. First up is another of the new Duos.  I love this flower –  it can easily be stamped this way or colored in!  I happened to find this paper that I thought matched the style perfectly.  A little distressing on the edges and that was it!

Friends are Flowers

Next I have something using Theresa Momber’s newest set.  And it is full of FLOWERS!  Just lovely ones too!  I found some sweet paper from Pink Paislee and decided to use that.  I colored this with my Copics.  Not sure what my deal is with the double bows, but it just works here!

Dogwood and Butterfly

Lastly, I have Tami Mayberry‘s newest set.  I chose a super simple card for this one.  I inked the border with an ink pad, then used a brown marker to go over the edging.  I cut it out (carefully!) and that’s it!  I thought the colors may even go for a masculine birthday card….I never have enough of those!
