Sorry I skipped this weekend!  We were just doing family stuff and my Dad offered to babysit so we actually went on a date!

Alrighty, this is one that has been asked for several times. I watercolor in a pretty simple way, so I hope this helps! I don’t use anything fancy, just reinkers and a waterbrush. I know I have mentioned this several times before, but I love the Niji Waterbrush. I use the Sm 9mm one. I got mine on ebay, but that seller isn’t there anymore. You can also fine them <here>. And here’s how I get started!

I prefer the Palette Noir ink pad for stamping my images when I am going to watercolor (actually, I use this black for darn near everything). I used to use the Stampin’ Up Basic Black, but it tends to run when you use a waterbrush on it. And - let’s be honest - it’s not black! It looks kinda purple when you stamp it.

Then when I watercolor - I start by opening my ink pad and dropping a few drops of reinker in the lid. This is very useful because you can store the ink pad with the ink in the lid. The ink stays there - it doesn’t dry or anything. You can re-use it whenever you want.

From there, I just dip my waterbrush in the reinker. Usually I test it on my scratch paper to make sure it is the shade I want (you can dip in center for more concentrated color and more towards the edges for less color).

Then just color in your image! I don’t have any real tips on that part. Sometimes I start by outlining the image (when my reinker has the most concentrated color on it) but I didn’t do that this time.

And that’s it!

And here is my card using the image:

Thanks for sharing your techinque for watercoloring. I can’t justify the Copics because of the cost, but this works just as well for me! I love how your card turned out! This is a beautiful little stamp with endless possibilities for colors. I was watching the Grammys last night and missed out on the release party, but thanks for the thread so I can see what I missed:)

Emily, I have to post to say: many, many thanks. I’ve been looking at the waterbrushes at the craft store, wondering how you used ‘em. Your tutorial gives a great view of how that’s done.

But then all of your tutorials are great. I posted at my blog tonight my take on the Target mailboxes. And I owe a HUGE thanks to you for demonstrating how easily they could be decorated. http://margaelinks.blogspot.com/2008/02/valentines-fun.html

    Again, many, many thanks.

    Emily~
What gorgeous watercoloring. ilike your idea of putting the re-inkers in the lid. I have all the re-inkers and seldom use them..and I watercolor all the time with the acquapainter…I used to press the lid to the top..but the re-inkers are much more efficient. Thanks for the tutorial. Chris
